Learn how to help stranded marine mammals in Whatcom County

People can volunteer to help seal pups and other marine mammals after undergoing a training session organized by the Whatcom Marine Mammal Stranding Network.

Responders help when a marine mammal has been reported as being stranded. Responsibilities include finding the mammal in distress, keeping others from getting too close, and collecting data.

There are three upcoming responder training sessions in Whatcom County:

▪ Saturday, April 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at BP Heron Center, 7290 Birch Bay Drive.

▪ Tuesday, April 12, 6 to 9 p.m. on Lummi Island at the Beach Store Cafe, 2200 N. Nugent Road.

▪  Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Point Roberts Community Center, 1487 Gulf Road.

The cost is $25.

People can sign up by emailing carole_murray@comcast.net.
