Church campus planned in Bellingham’s Cordata area

A church is making plans to build a campus in northern Bellingham that will include 260 multifamily units, a daycare facility and storage units.

The Church of the Nazarene submitted an application for a planned development permit for the campus for the 100 block of Tremont Avenue, just west of Meridian Street.

The residential component will have six buildings and will be near the church that is also being built, said Michael Kingsley, a real estate agent for Windermere Commercial in Bellingham. He is the broker for the project. He said the church wants to have a campus where people are living nearby.

He said if the project meets with permit approval, the church wants to get started with construction as soon as possible, adding that the property owners are excited about bringing this to the community.

The property also has areas set aside for wetland open space and stormwater management.

The Church of the Nazarene has other churches in Van Zandt and Lynden in Whatcom County, according to its website.

The city is taking written comments about the project until Tuesday, March 8. Comments and requests for information can be sent to planner Moshe Quinn by email at mquinn@cob.org or to the Planning and Community Development Department, 210 Lottie St., Bellingham, WA 98225.
