Southbound I-5 lanes closed Monday, Tuesday nights near Birch Bay
Crews will close all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the Birch Bay-Lynden Road overpass near Blaine Monday and Tuesday night, Feb. 22 and 23, as they continue to repair the damaged bridge.
During the seven-hour closures from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., vehicles will use the Birch Bay-Lynden off-ramp and immediately get back on the interstate using the on-ramp to bypass the closure.
Washington State Department of Transportation contractor crews are replacing a 60-foot girder on the bridge, and the repairs are expected to be completed in early April. The overpass was damaged last spring when it was hit by an excavator being carried on a flatbed truck.
Updates on the project can be found at wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i5/birchbaylyndenbridgerpr/.
