The planned nighttime closures of southbound Interstate 5 this week at the Birch Bay-Lynden Road overpass have been postponed.

The closures were scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights, Feb. 17 and 18. They likely will happen next week instead, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

One lane of the freeway near the overpass may be closed at times during the week.

Traffic over the bridge remains down to one lane, controlled either by a signal or flaggers.

WSDOT contractor crews are replacing a 60-foot girder on the bridge, and the repairs are expected to be completed in early April. The overpass was damaged last spring when it was hit by an excavator being carried on a flatbed truck.
