Former car wash makes way for drive-thru Starbucks in Bellingham
With the Jalopy Jakoozee car wash gone, work can begin on a new Starbucks location.
The car wash at 814 Iowa St. was demolished Wednesday, Feb. 10. The plan is to put in a 900-square-foot Starbucks store that will only be for drive-thru and walk-up customers. The property is not large enough to have an indoor seating area. It is expected to be ready by this summer.
Wadsworth Development Group out of Utah, a preferred development contractor for Starbucks, purchased the property at the end of November for $535,000, according to documents from the Whatcom County’s property records website.
In an interview when the project was first announced, Ed Waldvogel, development manager of the company, said he expects it to be a popular concept because it is near Interstate 5 and on a popular commuter route. A look at other drive-thru-only Starbucks stores is available on the company’s website.
