Mount Baker Highway near Deming reopened to two-lane traffic
Mount Baker Highway near Deming has been reopened to two-way traffic after crews finished emergency repairs Thursday, Jan. 14.
The eastbound lane near milepost 16 was closed Nov. 30 to repair a broken culvert, and was originally expected to open by the new year.
The damaged culvert destabilized the ground beneath the road.
Temporary signals alternated traffic through the area during the fix, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Crews fixed the culvert and also repaired a section of the highway.
Although the highway is now two lanes in that area, DOT said drivers should prepare for a lane closure during daylight through next week because crews have to finish clean-up near the site.
