What’s open, closed MLK Day in Whatcom County

Government offices and public schools will be closed Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Grocery stores, Bellis Fair, most retail stores and restaurants will be open.

Here is the status of some offices and services Monday. For other places, call ahead to be sure on hours.

Whatcom County and city of Bellingham offices: Closed.

Bellingham parking meters: Not enforced.

Whatcom County Library and bookmobile: Closed.

Bellingham Public Library: Closed.

Banks: Most are closed.

Postal service: No regular mail delivery.

Garbage service: SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal on regular pickup schedule but trucks could be early so customers are advised to set out trash the night before. SSC offices and the Bellingham Recycling Center/Transfer Station at F Street and Roeder Avenue will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Western Washington University, Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College: Closed.

Whatcom Transportation Authority: Buses running on regular schedule.

Movie theaters: Open.

The Bellingham Herald: Regular newspaper delivery.
