The first Art Walk of 2016 will be on Friday, Jan. 8.

The Downtown Bellingham Partnership announced the change of date for the event. Typically the Art Walk happens on the first Friday of the month, but because the first Friday of 2016 falls on Jan. 1, it was decided to push it a week so people could enjoy other New Year’s Day festivities, said Kyle Fuller, a spokesman for the organization.

The Art Walk will return to the first Friday of the month in February, Fuller said.

The downtown partnership is also launching Hatch 2.0 on Jan. 8 at 221 Prospect St. Hatch is a program that tries to fill empty downtown spaces with successful businesses. Earlier this year its first Hatch project was at 1302 Commercial St., which was filled by a business called Social Fabric. The business focuses on fashion, sewing and textile arts.

The Art Walk event involves downtown art venues, businesses and regional artists showing their latest work. It takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. For details, visit downtownBellingham.com.
