Families having trouble finding Toys for Tots in Bellingham

Toys for Tots is looking for good homes for a few — or lots — of gifts.

Families in need seem to be having a difficult time finding the organization, which has moved into a new spot this year at 315 Lakeway Drive as you head into downtown Bellingham.

Look for the white signs with red lettering outside a building across from the Chevron gas station just before Ellis Street. Organizers made sure to have plenty of signs after people reported trouble finding the spot.

Toys will be distributed 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, and those same hours on Dec. 18 and 19.

To be eligible, you must be a custodial parent and provide photo identification of yourself and each of the children, and proof of residency in Whatcom County. Acceptable forms of identification include a state driver’s license or ID card, tribal ID card, medical card for children or Social Security card. A phone or electric bill can serve as proof of residency. No photocopies of IDs or personal correspondence as proof of residency will be accepted.

Donations of unwrapped, new toys also are welcome at the site during open hours.
