Starbucks to build drive-thru off Iowa in Bellingham
A new Starbucks is coming, but this one will be only for drive-thru and walk-up customers.
Wadsworth Development Group out of Utah, a preferred development contractor for Starbucks, recently purchased the former Jalopy Jakoozee car wash property at 814 Iowa St., which is near the Dairy Queen restaurant.
Wadsworth has filed building permit applications to build a 900-square-foot structure in that spot, with the expectation of it being open around mid-May, said Ed Waldvogel, development manager for the company.
The property itself is small, requiring the drive-thru-only concept, but Waldvogel said it should be a popular concept in that spot. It is right near Interstate 5 and along a popular commuter route. A look at some of the drive-thru-only Starbucks stores can be found on the company’s website.
It’s also an area that doesn’t have many drive-thru coffee places, said KC Coonc, a commercial real estate agent for Windermere Real Estate. He represented the owner of the property along with Windermere agent Ryan Martin.
This is the second new Bellingham Starbucks announcement in recent months. In October it was announced that a Starbucks cafe and drive-thru would be going into a retail center called Fairhaven Plaza on Old Fairhaven Parkway, near the Whatcom Farmers Co-op.
