Forecast: Windy Whatcom weather to continue through Wednesday
Windy weather was expected to continue through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, with sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The service issued a wind advisory early Tuesday morning for western Whatcom County and San Juan County. The advisory warns that northeast winds of 30 mph could make it difficult to drive, especially for taller vehicles, break tree branches, and cause power outages.
Puget Sound Energy’s outage map showed several areas in the county with outages.
PSE had several crews out working to repair outages, which were reported in Ferndale, Birch Bay, Lynden, Everson, Maple Falls and Bellingham.
Many tree branches and some trees were taken down by the wind, which was expected to be the worst in areas near the water and over Lummi Island, and reach the strongest speeds Tuesday afternoon.
Winds were in the mid-20s Tuesday morning, with gusts up to 49 mph before 12 p.m.
Gusts in the high 40s continued through most of Tuesday afternoon, as measured at Bellingham International Airport.
