Whatcom County events salute military for Veterans Day
Events across Whatcom County will honor veterans before, on and after Veterans Day, which is Wednesday, Nov. 11. These events are free unless otherwise noted.
FERNDALE HIGH SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
Meet and greet breakfast at 8 a.m., first assembly at 9 a.m., second assembly at 10:15, Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Ferndale High auditorium, 5830 Golden Eagle Drive.
Veterans are welcome to attend breakfast and share their stories with students at the meet and greet before the assemblies. Veterans and community members are invited to attend one or both assemblies. Veterans will be recognized at the events.
BLAINE SENIOR CENTER SALUTE
Noon Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Members of Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post No. 7 will honor veterans for their service and offer information on veterans benefits including medical care, pensions and burial benefits.
SWEAT FOR A VET
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11
Anytime Fitness, 4252 Cordata Parkway in Bellingham; 8152 Birch Bay Square
Anytime Fitness locations in Bellingham, Birch Bay and Mount Vernon will donate $1 to the Wounded Warrior Project for every workout, whether you are a member or not, up to 1,000 workouts per club. Day-use fees for nonmembers will be by donation. The Wounded Warrior Projects offers programs and services for injured veterans and their families.
BELLINGHAM CITY HALL CELEBRATION
11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Veterans to be honored by Albert J. Hamilton American Legion Post No. 7 at a. ceremony in the City Hall lobby. Mayor Kelli Linville will give the opening address. Featured speaker is USMC Col. Wes Weston. Vocalist Sonia Alexis will perform, along with the Bellingham Alumni Band, Bellingham Pipe Band and the Post. No. 7 honor guard. Rick Sucee will be the master of ceremonies.
BELLINGHAM VFW POST 1585 CEREMONY
3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
VFW Post 1585, 625 N. State St., Bellingham.
VFW Auxiliaries from Bellingham, Custer and Lynden will join together in this special ceremony that begins with the honor guard from Lynden. At 3:30 p.m. is a 27 flags presentation followed by ceremonial flag folding. A patriotic sing-along begins at 5 p.m. The event also includes a historical poppy display and free food for all veterans. All veterans are welcome to attend, even if they don’t belong to one of the posts.
VETERANS DINNER
6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
Bellingham Elks Club, 710 Samish Way.
Bellingham Elks are serving a meatloaf dinner and putting on a special program to honor veterans. Dinner is free for veterans and their spouses; donation of $10 requested from others in attendance. For details and RSVP information, see the Bellingham Elks Facebook page or call 360-733-3333.
FEES WAIVED AT STATE PARKS
Wednesday, Nov. 11
In honor of Veterans Day, no Discover Pass is required for state parks, including the three in Whatcom County: Birch Bay State Park, Larrabee State Park and Peace Arch State Park.
VETERANS BREAKFAST
8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14
Bellingham Senior Activity Center, 315 Halleck St.
Celebrate and honor veterans during a breakfast that includes pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit and yogurt parfaits and beverages. This breakfast is free for veterans, $6 for adults, $4 for children. At 11 a.m. the Pakawalups, a USO-style harmonizing trio, will perform.
