Howl-o-Ween

Here’s some news that will have you howling. Washington state is ranked 20th in the nation for the number of “doggy trick-or-treaters.” How do we know this? The folks at Big Heart Pet Brands did a survey. About 28 percent of dog owners in the state like to dress their dogs up in Halloween costumes and 16 percent take their dogs trick-or-treating. Which state was top dog when it comes to Howl-o-Ween? That would be Virginia, where a whopping 64 percent like to dress up their dogs.

Stat geek Halloween

41.2 million - Estimated number of kids ages 5 to 14 that could be knocking on Americans’ doors on Halloween (2014). Their targets: 117.3 million occupied homes (hopefully with good candy). Of course, only 78.7 percent of households feel their neighbors can be trusted. The U.S. Census Bureau has many more slightly obscure numbers for Halloween.

Not scary enough

Two scarecrows apparently didn’t ward off a thief, who nabbed the decorations from the Blaine yard they were guarding Monday night, Oct. 26. No cars were heard, so police believe the thief ran off with the scarecrows. No word if someone from Kansas and her little dog were involved.
