Arbor Day at Squalicum Creek Park
Celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree Saturday, October 17 at Squalicum Creek Park, the newly developed park at 1001 Squalicum Way, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Mayor Kelli Linville will kick off the event with a proclamation at 9:30 a.m.; the tree-planting party will go until noon. The Bellingham Parks Volunteer Program will provide gloves, tools and plants. You are advised to wear closed toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Sunday morning lane closures planned
Drivers who use southbound Interstate 5 in Bellingham should be prepared for lane closures near Northwest Avenue Sunday morning, Oct. 18.
Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will close one lane of southbound I-5 near milepost 257 from 5 to 11 a.m. to repair damaged guardrail. Crews will start by closing the right lane to repair the guardrail on that side, then close the left lane to make repairs in the median.

The Everson Police Department was recognized for its support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve on Oct. 13. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve presented the award to Everson Police Chief Dan MacPhee.
