What’s happening in Whatcom County for Sept. 28
Marathon madness
Those who completed the Bellingham Bay Marathon on Sunday are celebrating their success and nursing sore legs. See if you can spot your friends, neighbors or co-workers in our photo gallery from the event.
Transportation to-do list
Want to know where your county tax dollars are going? The Whatcom County Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the courthouse, to consider the county’s six-year plan for transportation improvements. Every road project on the county’s to-do list is on that plan.
Balancing act

Dish on dirt
The WSU Snohomish County Extension is teaching a series of gardening classes in the coming months. It starts with a session on increasing the health and fertility of your garden soil. The class is 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Cougar Auditorium, 600 128th St. SE inside McCollum Park in Everett. More on the Growing Groceries series, including cost, is at growinggroceries.brownpapertickets.com.
Blood moon photos
If you missed last night’s event, plenty of people captured photos. Paul Conrad shot this one of the moon over Mount Shuksan. Ross Schram von Haupt captured it above the Old City Hall. The Guardian collected images from around the world.
Halloween hamburgers
The black bun is no mistake. The buns, made with A.1. Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce, mark the burger that Burger King describes as having “savory flame-grilled beef topped with melted American cheese, ripe tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, A.1.® Thick and Hearty Sauce, crunchy pickles, and sliced white onions.” They’re available now at BK for $4.99.
