Everson woman dies from bicycle crash injuries

An 69-year-old Everson woman struck by an SUV while bicycling last month has died from her injuries, the Washington State Patrol announced Friday evening, Sept. 25.

Sylvia Israel Woodbury was injured shortly after noon Aug. 18 when she swerved on her bicycle as she rode west on East Smith Road near Sand Road, according to state patrol.

She was hit by a westbound Honda Pilot and thrown from the bike.

Woodbury, who wore a helmet, suffered a severe injury to the side of her head, witnesses said. Doctors told family there was “no chance of Sylvia sustaining a quality life,” according to a giveforward.com page. Supporters and friends raised funds for Woodbury to be brought home in her last days.

The driver of the Honda, Margaret Ishii, 67, of Bellingham, wasn’t charged or cited.

The speed limit on that stretch of Smith Road is 50 mph.
