Loud noises on campus
Students might feel some vibrations or hear some loud noises on their first day of school at Western Washington University today. That's because contractors are demolishing the Sam Carver Gymnasium this week for the building's renovation, which is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2017.
It’s an appliance party
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Appliance Depot announced it is having a party from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. It’ll include bluegrass music, local beer and other refreshments, games and videos. Details can be found on its website.

Zumba for charity
Get your Zumba on in this fundraiser featuring North Whatcom Fire and Rescue firefighters at their station at 4142 Britton Loop Road starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 at the door. Lots of auction items as well. All proceeds go to help families affected by this summer’s wildfires in the Okanogan area.
Mexico eruption
While Mount Baker remains quiet, Mexico's Volcán de Colima released two huge plumes of ash and smoke on Wednesday, the latest emissions in ongoing activity at the site. The second column reached an altitude of at least 1.2 miles. Watch this time lapse of the latest eruption:
