Watch out for Bellingham Traverse
The annual multisport event on Saturday, Sept. 19, will have athletes racing down Chuckanut Drive, around Lake Samish and Lake Padden and through parts of downtown and along local trails. They’ll also kayak on Bellingham Bay. This event tends to clog up traffic in places.

Aww, it’s an otter. With asthma?
The Seattle Aquarium has diagnosed an otter with asthma. And taught it to use an inhaler. (King5 video)
Anniversary celebration: Moreno Dental is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a patient appreciation party 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 3115 Howe Place. The celebration will include live music, a taco truck and an ice cream by Sugar Shack. Details can be found on the company’s Facebook page.
The literary NFL?
Quirkbooks.com has renamed a few famous novels as if they involved NFL teams.
Photo winners: Roger Iverson of Bellingham and Jan Crawford of Ferndale received honorable mentions in the International Photography Exhibition at the Washington State Fair. Check out Iverson’s work with the Bellingham Photography Club and Crawford’s state fair entries. See their work at the fair in Puyallup, which runs through Sept. 27.
