What’s happening in Whatcom County for Sept. 10
Farm tour: Clean off the bikes or load up the car and the kids before Saturday morning to take in some or all of the 12 stops on the Whatcom County Farm Tour. The free, self-guided tour runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Check out the map of places to visit.
Road closure: Winter Creek Place in Sudden Valley will be down to one lane on Oct. 10 and 11 for a culvert replacement. Drivers should expect delays.
Island news: The Whatcom Chief is in its annual dry dock for maintenance, so that means if you’re heading to Lummi Island bring a bike or plan on finding other transportation. A foot ferry will run until Oct. 1, when the regular ferry is expected to return to service.
Western tops list: Western Washington University is the highest-ranking public, master’s granting university in the Pacific Northwest, according to U.S. News & World Report.

9/11 memorial: A time-lapse video shows the construction of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Penn. The doors to the 6,809-square-foot visitor’s center opened Thursday, Sept. 10. EarthCam created the time-lapse of the 1,800 days of construction.
New memory care center: Silverado has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 for its new memory care facility at 4400 Columbine Drive in Bellingham. Once completed, the 41,000-square-foot facility will be able to care for up to 80 people. Details can be found at silverado.com/bellingham.
