Make sure students have all of their back-to-school clothes and supplies, as the first day of school is only days away in Whatcom County.

The first day for students at Bellingham School District is this week, on Wednesday, Aug. 26 for grades 1-12.

Other Whatcom County schools will wait until next week. Here’s a full list of start dates in the county:

Wednesday, Aug. 26: Bellingham School District.

Tuesday, Sept. 1: Meridian School District, Lynden Christian schools.

Wednesday, Sept. 2: Ferndale, Lynden, Nooksack Valley and Blaine school districts and Lummi Nation Schools.

Thursday, Sept. 3: Mount Baker School District.

With schools back in session, that means school zone speed limits will be in place, as well as rules against passing buses with their stop paddles out. Local police agencies tend to focus on enforcement around buses and crosswalks as classes begin.
