Road work starts Aug. 24 in Sudden Valley, Lynden, Bellingham

Drivers in Whatcom County will see some new major projects starting Monday, Aug. 24, in addition to ongong roadwork.

Sudden Valley: Sudden Valley Drive will be closed from Glacier Ridge Drive to Harbor View Drive through Thursday, Aug. 27, for a culvert replacement. Signs will direct drivers to a detour route. Motorists should expect delays. Questions: Contact Stremler Gravel at 360-354-8585.

North of Lynden: H Street Road will be closed to through traffic for ditch and shoulder work between Guide Meridian and Jackman Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday, Aug. 27 and again next week. This closure does not apply to emergency vehicles, school buses or local traffic, but delays should be expected. Questions: Contact Whatcom County maintenance and operations, 360-778-6400.

Downtown Bellingham: North State Street will be reduced to a single lane between Maple and Rose streets starting Monday. In addition, Laurel Street between State and Forest streets will be restricted to local traffic, accessed only from Forest. The six-week project includes pedestrian safety improvements such as crosswalks, sidewalks and street lighting, plus bicycle markings will be refreshed leading to the South Bay Trail.
