Wildfire relief scams: Sad as it sounds in the wake of three firefighters’ deaths near Twisp, the state Attorney General’s office warns donors to be wary of scams seeking money for wildfire relief efforts. Is Lummi Island boring? “The island isn’t exactly rife with amusements” is one line in a Seattle Times review of travel to Lummi Island. Is it a fair review or condescending to island life?

Pump prices down: The average price for gas in Bellingham has dropped below $3 a gallon, making it one of the least expensive among major Washington state metro areas. That’s about $1 a gallon less than a year ago. Check out the AAA Washington Daily Fuel Gauge Report for details.

More bus money: The Whatcom Transportation Authority will start charging Western Washington University more for bus service this year. The increase to student and staff rates follows a recent fare hike on the 80X bus to Mount Vernon.

Be a better student: Want to learn how to be an “A” student at Bellingham Technical College? The college’s tutoring department will offer a workshop to enrolled BTC students for free on the habits of “A” students at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in room 108 of the Haskell Center. Email tutoring@btc.edu, or call 360-752-8499 for more information.
