The Bellingham Police Department is warning people about scam callers claiming to be from Peacehealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham who are telling people a loved one is injured and on life support.

No demands for money have been made, and the police are unsure what the scammers are gaining from the calls, or why they are being made.

The police are telling people to hang up if they receive similar calls and to call the hospital at 360-734-5400 to confirm if the news is real. Don’t race to the hospital in panic, BPD advises.

People who have confirmed the call to be a scam can report the phone number to www.ftc.gov.
