Whatcom County 6-year-old dies from injuries after being crushed by log at beach
A 6-year-old boy who was crushed by a log at Little Squalicum Beach died from his injuries Sunday.
Killian Gonzales was playing in a driftwood fort someone had made July 8 when one of the logs fell on him, according to a GoFundMe created by a friend of the family. First responders conducted CPR for about 20 minutes before they were able to restore his pulse.
Gonzales was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment and then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He had multiple fractures to his skull, a broken nose and a collapsed lung, according to the GoFundMe account.
Gonzales’ mother, Sonja McCartney, wrote Monday that the family is living through “unimaginable grief.”
She said Gonzales had an infectious laugh and loved to adventure outside.
“He was curious about everything and loved to learn,” McCartney wrote. “He loved to give hugs and always made sure to include everyone around him so they didn’t feel left out.”
She thanked everyone who provided support and donated to the GoFundMe, which had raised over $42,000 as of Monday morning.
