A 53-year-old Ferndale man died in a car crash the morning of Sunday, June 21 along the 900 block of West Laurel Road in Whatcom County.

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Ben Russell, the man was involved in a collision between a pickup truck and a sedan around 8:53 a.m. that injured four people. Two of the injured were released at the scene. One was taken by ground to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, and the Ferndale man was taken by air to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the man was transported by air to Harborview and that he died from his injuries later in the day.

Slater said deputies concluded there was no crime involved, so no arrests have been made and the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the deceased person’s identity.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office’s June 23 list of decedents includes Jeffrey Hugh Chalfant, 53, of Ferndale. The listing says he was taken to Harborview on June 21 following a roadway accident in Ferndale the same day, and he also died June 21.
