A family home in Ferndale was destroyed in a fire Sunday morning.

Everyone was able to leave the home before firefighters arrived, and nobody was injured, according to Ferndale Assistant Fire Chief Ben Russell.

The building was heavily involved when firefighters arrived, and the home was made completely unlivable.

The fire occurred around 1:25 a.m. June 21. The cause remains under investigation by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, according to spokesperson Deb Slater.

After confirming that all residents had safely evacuated, firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading from the single-story residence, Russell said.

It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control, Russell said, and then they remained on scene until about 4 a.m. to locate hot spots and make sure the fire was completely extinguished, Russell said.
