A Lynden School District bus veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred after the bus driver experienced a medical emergency around 3:40 p.m. Friday, May 1 along the 8500 block of Sunrise Road, according to Deb Slater with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, and no other injuries were reported.

Five students were on the bus at the time of the crash, and all were evaluated for injuries before being released to their parents at the scene, according to Lynden School District Superintendent David VanderYacht.
