Registration has opened for the 2026 Bellingham Traverse, hosted this year by Whatcom Events.

Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, the Bellingham Traverse is a multi-sport relay race involving Whatcom County parks, trails and lakes, according to a news release from Whatcom Events.

Although the route is not finalized, the current plan is for the race to start at Waypoint Park with sea kayakers heading to Marine Park. This will transition to road bikes and a race around Lake Samish, followed by a trail run around the outer trails of Lake Padden up to Galbraith Mountain for a mountain bike race. Next is a greenway (landscape) run back to Waypoint Park and a short team run to wrap up the race, according to the release.

Finally, there will be an after party and award ceremony at Kulshan Trackside. The race route is available online, but has not been finalized and could change, the release states.

The traverse was purchased by Whatcom Events last December. Whatcom Events also hosts the Ski to Sea race. Participants can compete as a solo racer, tandem, or as a team of five, with special benefits for corporate teams.

Registration opened April 8 and can be completed online through the Whatcom Events website.
