Watch: St. Patrick’s Day Parade draws cheering crowd to downtown Bellingham
Hundreds of spectators lined Cornwall Avenue through downtown Bellingham on Sunday for the 16th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Mayor Kim Lund, who was this year’s grand marshal, kicked off the procession in a perky little EV, followed by bagpipers, police officers and sheriff’s deputies on bicycles, and St. Patrick leading an antique fire engine.
“We love St. Patrick’s Day. We have Scottish lineage, but we like to celebrate also,” spectator Kailin James told The Bellingham Herald. James wore an emerald green top with shamrocks and shiny green beads.
“I’m having a lot of fun!” said her daughter Drew, clutching a stuffed animal thrown from one of the parade participants’ floats.
Other participants threw candy and handed out green beaded necklaces, adding to the festivities honoring the Roman Catholic Saint Patrick, a 5th-century missionary and patron saint of Ireland.
There were leprechauns and a marching band, along with traditional Irish dancers and a group festively clad friends who call themselves the Department of Fun.
