Looking for a new tattoo
You can celebrate a famously quirky date — and take advantage of local sales — on Friday, March 13.
Friday the 13th has been considered an unlucky day since the early 20th century, although reasons differ as to why, Moira Marsh, a folklore librarian at the University of Indiana Bloomington, told NPR in 2024.
Some people have embraced Friday the 13th’s spooky nature by getting tattooed, Slate reported in 2023.
These Bellingham shops who will have specials designs and prices on Friday in honor of that tradition:
Story Tattoo
Story Tattoo, 1051 North State St. in Bellingham, will have four artists — Kate Lumos, Ivy Stabs, Nightshade Tattoo and Artful Inkling — offering unique flash sheets and prices on Friday, the business said in an Instagram post.
Designs related to luck include a shooting star, ladybugs and horseshoes, the shop said. Prices range from $83 to $113.
All artists can also ink designs related to St. Patrick’s Day, including a leprechaun, a pot of gold with a rainbow and four-leaf clovers. These designs go for $113.
The shop will take walk-in appointments from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
Chameleon Tattoo and Piercing
At least two tattoo artists at Chameleon Tattoo and Piercing, 1146 N State St in Bellingham, will be hosting flash designs, according to business representatives.
Those pieces will range in price $130 to $200. The shop will be taking walk-ins beginning at noon
Local tattoo artists Jada Martin and Deb will be at Chameleon on Friday, the shop said.
As of Wednesday, March 11, the shop had yet to announce which designs will be available Friday.
State Street Tattoo
Four artists at State Street Tattoo, 1222 North State St. in Bellingham, will have special designs for Friday the 13th.
Designs include a black cat, a headstone, Snoopy and the number 13.
Tattoos will range in price from $60 to $120, according to Kyle Gonzales, an employee at State Street Tattoo.
The shop will take walk-ins from noon to 8 p.m. Friday.
Old School Tattoo
Several artists at Old School Tattoo, 209 East Holly St. in Bellingham, will have special designs for Friday the 13th.
All designs will range in price from $113 to $131, according to Devin Blue, an employee at Old School Tattoo.
The shop will accept walk-ins from noon to 8 p.m. Friday.
Blue said Old School Tattoo will announce its Friday the 13th flash designs on Friday to encourage people to come in.

X Tattoo
X Tattoo, 1315 Railroad Ave. in Bellingham, is offering flash tattoos for the second month in a row on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Prices will range from $100 to $200, according to the business’ Instagram page.
Customers can take advantage of the deal on Friday as well as Saturday, March 14.
As of Wednesday, the shop had yet to announce which flash designs will be available.
