Sometimes you need a place to study, work or simply find some focus.

Luckily, Bellingham is not lacking in quiet, cozy spots offering both coffee and contemplation.

Popular review website Yelp recently ranked the best study spots in Bellingham.

Here’s what made the list:

What Yelp reviewers are saying: “I love this coffee shop,” Yelp user Kait S. of Golden, Colorado, wrote in a five-star review. “The baristas are so nice, the tea is exceptional and affordable, and the ambiance is homey.” Yelp reviewer Kay F. of Vancouver, British Columbia, praised 11th Hour Tea and Coffee Bar’s “cozy seating area” and “very refreshing” drinks.

Avellino Coffeehouse

Where: 1329 Railroad Ave. Average Yelp rating: 4.2 stars What Yelp reviewers are saying: Yelp user Ezekiel B. of Milford, Massachusetts, called Avellino Coffeehouse an “ideal location” with lots of seating options. Makeworth Coffee Roasters

Where: 1201 North State St. Average Yelp rating: 4.4 stars What Yelp reviewers are saying: “This is a five-star coffee shop!” Yelp user Jim B. of Houston wrote in a review. “The coffee is the best in Washington (sorry Starbucks) ... and the service is fantastic.”

Where: 120 West Holly St. Average Yelp rating: 4.7 stars What Yelp reviewers are saying: Yelp user Morgan W. of Rancho Bernardo, California, called the Bellingham coffee shop and cocktail bar “my favorite any-time-of-the-day spot” with staffers that go “beyond sweet and kind.” “Locus is also a great study spot with outlets by their comfy seats by the window,” the reviewer said. “I love it here so much and hope it can be someone else’s go-to spot as well.” Contact: 360-306-8556

Lettered Streets Coffeehouse

How did Yelp come up with top 10 list?

To create its top 10 lists Yelp highlights restaurants and other spots that are “currently most popular with Yelp users in that area,” Cece Rulon, senior public relations coordinator at Yelp, told The Bellingham Herald via email.

Rankings are “based on a combination of factors like overall rating, number of reviews, recent reviews, recent ratings and recent pageviews,” Rulon said.
