The fire was reported around 8:45 p.m., and crews arrived at 8:49 to find flames extending from the first floor of the building into the walls and second story. The likely cause of the fire was a space heater, Michaelis said.

Crews had the fire under control quickly, and cleared the scene around 10:45 p.m.

Home fires are more common in the winter months than any other season, with heating systems being a leading cause of fire deaths in the United States, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
