GameStop to hold new Trade Anything Day at Washington stores. Here’s what to know
Have an unwanted video game lying around the house? What about a houseplant or a hand-knitted sweater?
GameStop is inviting customers to trade everything — well, nearly everything — in exchange for store credit.
The first-ever Trade Anything Day will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, at GameStop locations across the nation.
“For one day only, GameStop will be accepting more than the standard video game and tech-related product assortment we are known for and accepting almost anything in trade,” the company said on its website.
Here’s what to know:
What is Trade Anything Day at GameStop?
GameStop has been giving customers the opportunity to exchange their unwanted games, controllers, systems and other items for store credit since the early 2000s.
The company advertises itself as “the world’s largest retail gaming and trade-in destination for Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games, systems, consoles and accessories.”
Trade Anything Day will be a “fun and exciting day that redefines what trading looks like with GameStop,” according to the official website.
What can I trade?
You can bring in pretty much anything you like, as long as it isn’t on GameStop’s “exceptions list” and fits in a box measuring 20 inches by 20 inches by 20 inches.
In exchange, you’ll get $5 in store credit.
There is a maximum of one trade per customer.
Can store employees refuse my items?
Sales associates can refuse any item brought for trade in, regardless of size, according to GameStop’s Trade Anything Day website.
Before you start thinking about bringing in an old laptop or printer for GameStop credit, there are some limitations to what stores will accept.
Here’s a partial list of items that won’t be accepted on Trade Anything Day:
- Alcohol, tobacco and drugs
- Weapons and ammunition
- Computers
- Televisions
- VCR and DVD players
- Lithium-ion batteries
In addition, GameStop said, it won’t accept items including “life-size cardboard cutouts of your celebrity crushes,” the Ark of the Covenant, the Cleveland Cavaliers’s 2002 roster and the Jerry Seinfeld film “Bee Movie”.
The full list on prohibited items can be found at GameStop’s website
