Whatcom County nursing assistant accused of neglecting adult in her care

The Washington State Department of Health has charged a certified nursing assistant in Whatcom County with unprofessional conduct, the department announced Monday.

The department alleges Nancy Kromer neglected a vulnerable adult in her care and engaged in an inappropriate relationship with the client’s spouse.

According to the statement of charges, the individual for whom Kromer was caring was taken to the emergency department in August 2023 with “chronic, unhealing wounds” and pressure ulcerations.

Two months later, the Department of Health said it received multiple referrals from Adult Protective Services alleging that Kromer was neglecting her client, as well as engaging in a romantic relationship with her client’s spouse.

Evidence, including medical records and home security footage showing Kromer and her client’s spouse hugging and kissing “in an affectionate nature,” was received by the department in January 2024. She was charged with two violations of state code on Sept. 25.

Kromer’s license is still active, and enforcement actions are pending. If she fails to defend against the charges, she will be subject to discipline and sanctions.
