One person seriously injured in Bellingham residential fire

A residential fire in Bellingham sent one person to the hospital in serious condition.

First responders arrived around 1:45 p.m. Oct. 17 and reported smoke and flames coming from a two-story residence in the 4000 block of Cable Street, according to South Whatcom Fire Authority Chief Mitchell Nolze.

One person who exited the residence before firefighters arrived required medical attention, Nolze said.

A medic unit took the person to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham. Nolze said they were initially listed in serious condition.

Cable Street between Lakeway and Austin streets was closed during the incident.

Nolze told The Herald the fire was knocked down around 2:03 p.m. Units remained on scene to clean up hotspots. Crews found no other potential victims.

Units from the South Whatcom Fire Authority, Bellingham Fire Department and North Whatcom Fire and Rescue responded to the incident.

No other injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to a single residence.
