Whatcom Roundup: New Bellingham martini bar and waterfront shop; Veg Fest returns
Here’s our weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
New martini bar in Bellingham
New cocktail bar and restaurant MJ’s Martini’s is planning to open soon, according to recent building permit applications and social media posts.
The bar is planned to open soon at 416 W Bakerview Road, the previous location of Fireside Martini and Wine Bar.
“Our aim is to provide top-tier cocktails and elevated bar food. We will feature live music events,” according to the business’ Facebook page bio.
No official opening date has been announced, but the bar will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 3 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Fishery retail store joins Bellingham waterfront
Barlean’s Fishery, a retail shop featuring fresh seafood, art and local goods, has opened a location on Bellingham’s waterfront after closing its location in Ferndale.
“We may have quietly opened our doors at Squalicum Harbor in July, but now it’s time to celebrate this big change! After calling Ferndale home since 1972, Barlean’s Fishery is thrilled to be part of the working waterfront at the harbor,” according to a Sept. 15 Facebook post.
The retail shop is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2551 Roeder Ave. in Bellingham.
Bellingham Veg Fest returns
The Bellingham Veg Fest — an annual vegan festival featuring local vendors, crafts, food that is all 100% vegan — returns Sept. 21.
The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Barkley Village, 2219 Rimland Drive.
Participants are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, reusable bags, vegan cookbooks or shirts to trade, reusable utensils and containers, and vegan food donations for Birchwood Food Desert Fighters.
