Rescue crews landed a helicopter in Lake Padden Park on Tuesday, June 1, to assist a woman who was severely injured while mountain biking at Galbraith Mountain near Bellingham.

The woman was on the trail “Double Vision” when the crash occurred, and the 911 call came in around 1 p.m., according to South Whatcom Fire Authority (SWFA) Chief Mitch Nolze.

Rescuers from SWFA and Bellingham Fire Department paramedics used a vacuum splint to carry the woman off the trail to a nearby ambulance on a mountain road, according to Nolze.

An Airlift Northwest helicopter waiting at a landing zone at the park took the woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle because she required specialized care, according to a SWFA social media post.

Authorities have not released information regarding the woman’s injuries or current condition.
