Whatcom County businesses looking to reduce waste by increasing their recycling and composting efforts can tap into some new resources.
Sustainable Connections is expanding its Toward Zero Waste campaign after receiving additional funding from Alcoa Foundation. The Toward Zero Waste program is designed to help any business in Whatcom County with a variety of tools, including one-on-one assistance to develop a waste reduction policy.
Since starting the campaign in 2008, Sustainable Connections has helped more than 350 businesses put together waste reduction plans, according to a news release from the organization.
“With a little guidance, most businesses find it easy and rewarding to reduce their waste,” Mark Peterson, sustainable business manager for Sustainable Connections, said in the release. “As a result, both employees and owners are proud of it.”
