Expect traffic delays near PeaceHealth amid monthslong construction project

Patients and visitors traveling to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and nearby PeaceHealth clinics may experience delays over the next several months as construction gets underway in the area.

Crews began work June 2 on street improvements along Squalicum Parkway from Ellis Street to Birchwood Avenue that are expected to impact traffic through October.

The work includes:

Building sidewalks.

Installing crosswalk connections.

Developing bike lanes.

Installing lighting.

Building stormwater detention systems.

The work is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. One lane of traffic is expected to remain open at all times, according to a notice about the construction from PeaceHealth. Flaggers will be helping with traffic control. Street parking will be eliminated in the area as a result of the project.

The west entrance of the hospital will close June 17 as a result of the construction, according to PeaceHealth. The East Tower will become the main hospital entrance for the duration of the project.

“PeaceHealth patients and visitors are encouraged to allow extra time to get to their destinations and can park in the PeaceHealth Central Garage and North Garage,” PeaceHealth Communications Specialist Barbara Pongracz Lamb said in the notice.

RAM Construction is performing the work.

The roadway improvements are in addition to the Peter Paulson Pavilion construction project at PeaceHealth that began in April and is expected to open to the public in 2028.
