A Lynden school bus driver was killed in a crash Thursday morning. Reports indicate no children were on the bus at the time.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. in the 2000 block of Main Street in Lynden.

Annette Lyon, driver of Lynden School District bus No. 24, was declared deceased at the scene.

“Annette had been a valued member of the district since 2021, and her dedication to our students and families was deeply appreciated,” Lynden School District Superintendent David Vanderyacht said in a statement. “She will be greatly missed by our entire Lynden Schools community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Annette’s family, friends and colleagues, especially her team at the bus garage.”

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to a news release from the Lynden Police Department.

Authorities say a white SUV was traveling east on Main Street as the bus was traveling west. The driver of the SUV was taken to PeaceHealth Medical Center in Bellingham.

Investigators are asking for any witnesses to the crash to contact the Lynden Police Department at 360-354-2828.

“Please keep Annette’s loved ones and the Lynden Schools family in your thoughts during this difficult time,” Vanderyacht said.
