Large 20-foot rockslide blocks Chuckanut Drive, no reopening time estimated
A rockslide is fully blocking Chuckanut Drive, covering both lanes just south of the Skagit County border, near Blanchard Road.
The rockslide was reported on Twitter by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The rockslide stands more than 20 feet high with large boulders, according to a post from Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding.
The slide did not reach or impact the train tracks nearby. No injuries are reported as a result of the slide, according to WSP Trooper Anthony Reese.
WSDOT is working to clear the road with state patrol, incident response and maintenance crews on site. The road is expected to be closed for an extended period with no estimated time for reopening, according to WSDOT.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
Guy Colbert, owner of The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive, told The Herald in an email Wednesday that his business remains open, and that The Oytster Bar, Taylor Shellfish and Larrabee State Park can still be reached from the north. Chuckanut Manor can be reached from the south.
