Whatcom County officials are looking for volunteers to write statements opposing three amendments to the county charter that will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The amendments would change the charter to allow longer ballot titles for citizen-led initiatives and referenda, lower the signature requirement for initiatives to amend the charter, and allow participation by minor political parties in county redistricting after every census.
The charter is essentially the constitution for county government that sets the rules for how it runs and how leaders are elected.
The amendments are among 10 scheduled to appear on the ballot. Volunteers have already been approved for the other “pro” and “con” statements, which will appear in the voters guide.
