Authorities say a motorcyclist who died as the result of a crash on Interstate 5 this week is a 43-year-old male from Mount Vernon.

The motorcyclist struck a part of the Skagit River Bridge, and was ejected and struck by an oncoming semi-truck Thursday morning, according to a news release from the Skagit-Island Multiple Agency Response Team, which is investigating the incident.

The incident backed up traffic across the city to Cook Road for nearly two hours around 5 a.m.

The driver has been identified as a 43-year-old Mount Vernon man, although authorities have yet to release his name. No other injures were reported following the crash.

Police had attempted to stop the driver of the motorcycle for speeding on three separate occasions earlier in the morning. Each time the driver fled the police, and each time the pursuit was called off, according to the release.
