Bellingham is getting its own ‘Puppy Bowl’ dog adoption drive this Super Bowl Sunday
Barring a huge population surge, Bellingham will never host a Super Bowl. But this year, it’s getting the next-best option.
Happy Tails Happy Homes, a Bellingham nonprofit that finds foster care and permanent homes for animals in need, is holding its first-ever “Puppy Bowl.” The event is the nonprofit’s take on Animal Planet’s annual nationally televised canine football game and adoption drive of the same name.
“This event is a fantastic way to showcase some of our incredible adoptable pups while bringing joy to our wonderful community,” Jenna Samora, the president of the organization’s board, stated in a press release.

The event will take place at Menace Brewing, located at 2529 Meridian St., on Sunday, Feb. 9. It will feature two teams of dogs competing at their best impression of a football game. The participating dogs are all up for adoption and the event will showcase them in hopes of finding permanent homes. Even if you’re not interested in adopting a dog at the moment, the event is open to spectators who just want to watch as well.
“We have been wanting to host a Puppy Bowl adoption event for a long time,” Menace Brewing owner Ryan Flood stated in a press release. “We are excited to partner with Happy Tails Happy Homes to feature furry friends who need a home. The work Happy Tails does is so vital for our community.”
The event is free for anyone who wants to attend and runs from noon to 2 p.m., so you’ll still be able to catch the game, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Doug’s Burgers, located next to Menace, is joining in on the event as well, pledging to donate half of the day’s profits to Happy Tails.
