Authorities say a Dec. 12 carjacking near the Canadian border in Blaine involving a machete led to a high-speed chase along southbound Interstate 5 past Bellingham before ending in Skagit County just past the Bow Hill rest area.

A suspect was taken into custody around 2:07 p.m. by the Washington State Patrol, WSP Trooper Brad Tulloch told The Bellingham Herald.

The suspect allegedly used the machete to carjack an early 2000s Toyota Tacoma pickup around 1:30 p.m. and nearly struck a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer, which initiated the chase, according to a social media post from the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers attempted to use stop sticks on the vehicle, and when they were unsuccessful, troopers used a PIT maneuver to bring the pickup to a stop. The truck was identified as stolen from British Columbia, according to the social media post.
