A motorist died following a collision on northbound Interstate 5 just north of Northwest Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

All northbound lanes were blocked, as well as one southbound lane. The incident was announced as cleared and traffic resumed around 5:50 a.m.

The single-vehicle collision occurred when a driver on a 2006 Honda CBR600 motorcycle failed to navigate a curve and drove off the road to the left, hitting a barrier on the shoulder and coming to a rest against the cable barrier, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle, according to the incident report.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Brian E. Bachman, 20, of Bellingham.
