Mount Baker Highway will be closed above the mountain village of Glacier next week as Washington State Department of Transportation crews get ready for winter.

Closures are planned from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday from mileposts 39 to 54.

Milepost 39 is just below Nooksack Falls, and milepost 54 is just below Heather Meadows, according to the Mt. Baker Highway Milepost website.

“People who wish to travel beyond the closure points during non-closure hours are permitted to do so at their own risk. They must be past milepost 54 before 7 a.m. and will not be permitted back through the closure point until after 4 p.m.,” WSDOT said.

Road crews will be clearing catch basins and ditches, removing hazardous or dead trees, repairing guardrails and sweeping shoulders, WSDOT said in an emailed notice.
