Author behind hit HBO series launches new book at Bellingham Village Books event Tuesday
Liane Moriarty, the bestselling author of “Nine Perfect Strangers” and “Big Little Lies,” the latter of which was adapted by HBO into a critically-acclaimed series, is coming to Bellingham next week.
Village Books event set for Sept. 10
Moriarty will speak tuesday, Sept. 10 at an event hosted by Village Books, to mark the release of her latest novel, “Here One Moment,” which comes out the same day. In an email to the Bellingham Herald, the Sydney, Australia-based author said she chose Bellingham for the event for a couple of reasons.
“First, I love seeing my American readers,” Moriarty said through a publicist. “America put me on the map before anywhere else, and I always remember that. I also love seeing new places, and I’ve never been to Bellingham before. And I especially love independent bookstores like Village Books.”
About ‘Here One Moment’
“Here One Moment” centers around a flight, during which one passenger gets up and starts telling the other passengers how and when they’ll die. Six passengers in particular, she says, are set to die in the near future. While some passengers are skeptical, after the flight, her predictions start coming true.
Publishers Weekly’s early review of the book claims that it “rivets even as it thoughtfully contemplates free will, determinism, and the value of living passionately,” saying that “Moriarty has outdone herself.”
How to buy tickets
The event, which takes place at Bellingham High School, will be moderated by former Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest. Afterward, attendees can line up to get a copy of the book signed by Moriarty.
Tickets cost $40 and come with a copy of the book. You can also purchase two tickets and one copy of the book for $55. Tickets are available online. The event will run from 7 to 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.
It’s the second stop on Moriarty’s book release tour, after a visit to Menlo Park, Calif., on Sept. 9, and her only stop in Washington. After her Village Books visit, she’ll head to Salt Lake City before a pair of stops in Illinois. If you miss Tuesday’s event, Moriarty will be at the Vancouver Writers Festival on Sept. 18.
