Opportunity Council ready to ‘stuff the bus’ during basic needs drive this Wednesday

Opportunity Council is hosting a basic needs drive on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the Lakeway Fred Meyer in Bellingham. The “Back2Basics” campaign provides essentials for Whatcom families in need.

The “stuff the bus” event collects essentials for babies, families, back-to-school and households from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Items among the list of requested items includes diapers, toiletries, cleaning supplies, school supplies, clothes, pots and pans.

The drive helps meet families’ needs, which sets children up for success in school and protects them from stress caused by poverty, according to a news release.

Monetary donations and other donation locations can be found on the Opportunity Council’s website.
