A fireboat was used to put out a structure fire on Eliza Island in Bellingham Bay because no other fire suppression equipment was available.

There are no reported injuries from the fire, and the cause is under investigation.

The fire started around 3 p.m. Saturday. By the time crews arrived to the fire, the building had already collapsed, Bellingham Fire Department Captain Dustin Michaelis told The Bellingham Herald.

The fire boat dropped off a crew at the dock on the island, then moved to where the fire was on the Southeast corner of the island to put water on the fire. The boat also pumped water through a hose to supply the crew on the island.

The fire was out by 7:30 p.m.
